Imperfect Thought:
An Unstable Platform…

Jeeps. Who in their right mind has a jeep? This is a rhetorical question because the answer is no one.

I look at a jeep and my mind nearly ruptures. A box, generally appearing to be taller than it is wide or long, with four wheels snuggly fitting underneath the boxed shape. I know no one reading the site at present designs automobiles, but you don’t have to be a vehicle designer to know that this just isn’t sound use of stability.

I look at jeeps and wonder how did anyone go, “I want to go out in the woods or desert and drive around with this clearly unstable chariot”. But think for a moment. The vehicle tilts in nearly any direction and it simply flips. So there goes major off-roading and trekking. Then really you can get yourself just about any vehicle for this.

A jeep to me feels, looks, and just plain operates like a specialty vehicle. You can only do two things with it. Suck in some air and pretend you live in the turn of the 20th century. A jeep does nothing better than any other vehicle on the planet. It really boggles my mind.

I read someone state that “it’s not the jeep, it’s the driver.” Bullshit. Take the same driving tactics and you can use them on nearly every other vehicle EXCEPT for a jeep. Even a motorcycle with it’s two wheels is more stable than a jeep.

I just don’t get jeeps. They are a hazard to not only their drivers, but the persons in them. They boggle my mind. They are like crocs people wear while OUT in public. ARE YOU FUCKIN KIDDING ME? Put your shoes on people.

Regardless, stretch out that jeep and get something a little more stable. Go off-roading, bro, but for the sake of all that is holy, do it in something that doesn’t look like a cardboard box on wheels.

We rented a Jeep when we went to Hawaii. It was awesome! The sun coming down on us, the wind in our hair, and a near panoramic view of everything we wanted to see. Jeeps may be useless in the sense that they aren’t necessarily for off-roading, but damn they can be fun.

One more quick thing. What do you think about off-roading on Hummers? I knew a guy who sold those things and they’d take them out to the desert all the time.
